Gone Baby Gone

This is a very interesting movie, and I would recommend it, but at the beginning, I wouldn't have thought so.
Casey Affleck took some getting used to, for me - didn't care for his acting and his voice at first, but by the end I liked him and his voice - alot. Amy Ryan is absolutely believable in her role, and Ed Harris and Morgan Freeman give their typically fine performances.
The story started to lose me half-way through, but then it picked up and surprised me at the end. All in all, it was very good and the moral dilemma, at the end, kept me thinking - long after the movie was over.

Venus

Peter O'Toole still has it. Old fucker that he is, he can still act. Great movie. The topic was a little strange but I think they handled it pretty well. Men will always wish for things they can never have. And will not know what to do with it when they have it. I just loved the way that he thought about things and observed the world around him.

American Gangster

This was a pretty good movie - slow at the start, though.
I usually love how Russel Crowe inhabits each character he plays, but this one was a bit different for me. He was, somehow, not as believable as he usually is - though more so by the end - and, at times, I could see the character he played in A Beautiful Mind.

Margot at the Wedding

I have no idea if this was good or not. I saw almost none of it and heard only some of it - because I put it on while I washed windows all over the house. Liberal use of the F word and quirky people with complicated relationships - is about all I really know of it. And now it must go back to the video store. I like all the actors in it, so it might be good. I would love to read a review from someone who ACTUALLY watched it! And then I might rent it again.

Michael Clayton

This is a very good movie - good performances, interesting - and I would recommend it to anyone - but, like all the other nominees for Best Picture, not that "knock-your-socks-off" great. Just good.

ELIZABETH

Good movie, Cate VERY good, Clive very appealing - interesting, because of the history - but I liked the first one better.

The Jane Austen Book Club

Most definitely a chick-flick! Cute and nice, but not at all something that would make me say " you gotta see it. " Actually, it was pretty forgetable.
