Into The Wild

I liked the book much better.

The scenery was beautiful, the directing was good, the young actor very good, and it was a well done movie. But something was missing - and it felt like it was something important missing.
I still feel the frustration of not really knowing who this young man was.
I liked it, but I liked the book much better.

Happy Easter!

Michael Clayton

Loved this movie. Best I've seen in a long time. I think it finally show the potential of George.
But I agree, not Best Picture stuff.

Blue State

This movie feels like a low budget, first-effort film. And yet, it kept me watching. It felt real. And you're along for the ride with the main character. I would call it SO-SO.

Martian Child

Predictable. But, if you like John and Joan Cusack, as I do, then its O.K.
Not great, but good enough. I'd give it a C.

Venus

What courage - to act an old, old man.....when you ARE an old, old man! He was very good in this. It reminds me of Henry Fonda in On Golden Pond - raging against old age, as his character - and probably even more so, in real life, when the cameras stopped rolling. He died soon after the film was shot.
In this movie, there is something uncomfortable in seeing a man of his age so enthralled with a young woman who could be his granddaughter. It felt as if he had never raised a daughter or loved a granddaughter - to be seeing her in a such a sexual way. In real life, most women would find his behavior disgusting if it was their own grandfather.
And yet, the truth in it speaks of two constants in life.
1) Old age craves youth and youth craves a nod of approval from age and wisdom.
2) Males adore, even worship, female beauty and youth. It's in their biology. And females need to be adored and worshipped. It's in their biology.
It was a good movie - an interesting slice of life - both sad and happy.

A Rumor of Angels

A Vanessa Redgrave film - and although I liked it very much, I can understand how some people would not. It's about her friendship with a young boy. What I liked was her character in the film - thought I would like to be just like her. And the setting is quite beautiful, too.

The Gathering Storm

I LOVE this movie!!!
Albert Finney plays Winston Churchill, and as he is amazing! Every role he plays - every time - just bowls me over. Some years ago, I saw him in a movie where he played a bus driver in England or Ireland. In one scene, he had to explain to his sister that he was gay. He was extraordinary. I would like to see it again, but I don't know the title. It might be an Irish film.
So, besides Finney and Vanessa Redgrave, The Gathering Storm was also beautifully written and beautifully filmed. I LOVED this movie!

Eastern Promises

Vigo was nominated for best actor, or supporting actor, for this film. He was very good, but the movie SHOULD have been better. It was an interesting story, but there seemed to be something missing, and it just went along and then ended. I'm not sure if its worth the trouble of renting and watching - and, oddly enough, I can't even say exactly why.

Feast of Love

This was so-so. I can't really say "Good movie - gotta see it." But it was sort of cute and fun. Morgan Freeman seems to be able to make ANYTHING he is in watchable.
